The PROFESSION
So here I am in the fall of 2014, finishing my pursuit of a master’s degree at the University of Saskatchewan having opened up many new possibilities.
The Educational Technology and Design program has provided my the confidence, knowledge, and ability to challenge and change my norm. I began as a teacher, and I am ending as a teacher. However, I am now much more reflective and critical of my practice as I see it through new eyes.
I am able to provide guidance and advice to my colleagues whose respect for me has gradually increased. I will soon be able to put another few letters in front of my name though I do not think this is where the respect is coming from. I believe my ability to apply and project my understanding of instructional design and technology and its application to education has increased immensely.
At this point in my career I am no longer striving to become an assistant principal as I am focusing on other things that have become available since going through the ETAD program.
As I reflect back I am proud of my accomplishments:
I imagine many more opportunities will open for me as I continue to learn and grow. I welcome the challenge.

As I reflect back I am proud of my accomplishments:
- Completing my degree with grades higher than expected
- Publishing the chapter I wrote for ETAD 802 by the time I officially graduate in the spring of 2015
- Becoming a true leader at my school and within my areas of specialty for the school board.
- Being seen as an “expert” in the areas of technology and design by my colleagues
- Applying and being selected to present at both the 2015 Calgary and Edmonton Teachers’ Convention on the topic of Design Thinking and Maker Education
- Establishing a consulting firm with a friend, colleague, and fellow student of the ETAD based around the concept of designing, making, and learning.
I imagine many more opportunities will open for me as I continue to learn and grow. I welcome the challenge.
